Per request of Misuzu, I'm writing :o) Apparently it's been a long time since my last post. Today is filled with the sound of construction workers ripping up what carpeting remains in our house. After mid-August, it'll be all wood floors here (and the linoleum/tile in the kitchen and bathrooms, anyway). I miss the Loft terribly, although having Steph out here vising helps a lot.
Since I've been home, I've started my new job at Google, gone backpacking twice, and toured San Francisco. This weekend I'm taking Steph to Monterey and then to the wine country. The house is still a mess, but I think it's going to be that way for a while. Poor Steph, the construction people get here between 7:30 and 8 am every morning, and start pounding away. Or cutting tile with a power saw. Etc. Fortunately we have a basement :o)
My presence here still feels impermanent, as if I'm simply waiting for a reason to pick up and take flight. To where? I have no idea. My days are passing in haze and sunlight, the flickering of a computer monitor for 8 hours every day, meetings and projectors and never enough to do. In the next week I'm hoping to get more work done on Milton, including a significant amount of research. To find a color that I want to paint my room. I think once I do that, I'll be able to start the long process of sifting through all my things and deciding what is is that I need and don't need.
Work is pretty good. I'm facing the usual frustrations of not having enough to do and being bored. But so it goes. I was able to procure two weeks of vacation in August. I'll be spending 6 days with Steph in Minnesota Aug 2-7, and then 10 with Jack Aug 19-27. I'm looking forward to this time off immensely. In the meantime, I've also decided that I want to start applying for some other jobs elsewhere, jst in case this whole temp to hire thing doesn't work out for me. Always best to cover my bases, right?
So that's a brief overview of my life up to now. Zu, I promise to try and get back into the habit of writing regularly, and to give a better treatment of things than this glossy look :o)
