New Years are new beginnings

"New years are new beginnings" and of course I'm half a month late for this one. But so it goes in my life these days. I'd like to think that this isn't at all indicative of my general state of affairs, but sadly it is. Overtaxed at work, I've begun to let deadlines slip. No longer am I always on time to all my appointments. The worst part is, nobody's said anything about it yet.

However, that is not the directly this LJ is intended to go! Rather, I ought to be updating you on my daily goings-ons. Robert Chan at least still reads this regularly..I think...

In one sentence I'm.. working full time, dancing part time (standard AND latin), taking a DeAnza class, studying for the GRE, skiing, of course still spending time with my boy, and make time for catching up on an enormous stack of magazines. I honestly don't know how I do it, and I'm pretty sure that a lot of times I just don't ;o)

I think I have a new dance partner, Derrick, whom I am excited about. Turns out he used to be dance partners with Ushma, who once upon a time did some dancing with the Northwestern ballroom team. The dance world is a small one! It's been really nice to have some time to myself to dance and work on my own dancing, but it's ever better to have someone to practice and laugh with, and hopefully compete with too. I'm hoping that I can find a latin partner as well.. but that is doubling my time commitment, and I don't know if I'm ready for that yet.

My DeAnza classes are good, if a little simplistic. I had hoped that the days of being graded on participation might have ended, but no luck there. On the upside, we have some field trips (woohoo!) And one of my final projects is a book report. I think the professor said something along the lines of "reading for fun is a really rewarding thing to do, and I hope that all of you will discover that." Other than that, I love the professor's energy and enthusiasm and expertise, and am using the class as an excuse to go find crazy books on environmental science/studies and see if it's something I really love or not.

In the meantime, studying for GRE is tough now that I've gotten in the math parts where I'm really unmotivated, and uh, working on Julia and Robert's quilt (this weekend, I swear!) is something I'm working hard to find the time for. Finally ordered a ballroom gown from China, which will hopefully be of good quality.

That's all I have time for now, unfortunately I've spend small smatterings of my day over the course of many hours now to put this rather unsexy entry together. But that's okay, more soon, I promise!
