Spring Cleaning

Spent all night Friday and tonight going through papers and THINGS to get rid of as much as I could emotionally part with. Surprisingly, time makes some things easier to part with (for example, back issues of Time magazine, brochures from vacations taken long, long ago). Time makes some things more valuable too, like a book of likes/dislikes pulled together by high school girl friends, photos from grade school.

I've always been a box and container kind of person, preferring to put everything into neat boxes, so I can close the lid and hide the mess inside. Despite this inclination, I've been trying to be more disciplined about things like putting clothes away after I take them off, as opposed to tossing them on chairs, the floor, tables, any other hangable/flat surface, to be pushed under the bed later. Same with the bathroom - if I use something, I've been trying to put it back. It's not working perfectly yet, but it's better than it used to be. My room never gets to the point now where I can't walk from one end of it to the other. It's been out of "hurricane" stage for a long time, too.

Anyway, spring cleaning is always a nice purge. I like filling bags with all my recyclables. Last time around I remember being stunned at the stacks of horse magazines I'd accrued. This time around I was more appalled by the sheer volume of plastics I've used over the year. Must get better about that too. Today I forgot a reusable bag when I went to Whole Foods, so I just carried my things out.

Now that my room and the bathroom are clean, the only thing that still needs bathing is Heidi...

I am nicely calm this weekend, not a common occurrence with the craziness of my scheduling. Aside from a casual potluck with some coworkers today, and dance practice tomorrow, I've literally planned NOTHING. It's marvelous. One of these days I'll learn how to chill out for real (yeah right). At any rate, I don't have anything else to say, so I'm going to go study some GRE math - my favorite.
